Open call: Business and Arts South Africa CEO
Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) is inviting experienced and visionary candidates to submit applications for the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) position in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The role involves strategic oversight, financial management, and team leadership, with a focus on driving the organisation’s mission, maintaining operational excellence, and ensuring financial sustainability. The contract is permanent and the successful candidate will work 40 hours per week.
Key responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive business strategy aligned with BASA’s vision and objectives.
- Identify and leverage new business opportunities, collaborations, and networks.
- Work closely with the board to shape and execute strategic plans that advance BASA’s mission locally and internationally.
Team Management
- Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing team.
- Lead performance management processes to align team efforts with strategic goals.
- Cultivate a positive, collaborative organisational culture.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and regular feedback to team members.
Financial Management
- Oversee the organisation’s budget and ensure financial targets are achieved.
- Secure funding and build partnerships with existing and new stakeholders.
- Drive revenue generation to enhance the organisation’s financial sustainability.
External Relations & Stakeholder Engagement
- Represent BASA in key engagements, fostering relationships with stakeholders, partners, and suppliers.
- Lead stakeholder engagement initiatives, ensuring alignment with BASA’s values and long-term goals.
- Proactively manage BASA’s public image to maintain credibility and respect within the sector and broader community.
Governance & Reporting
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and governance frameworks.
- Provide regular updates to the Board on financial performance, strategic progress, and operational matters.
Requirements
Qualifications
- A relevant degree or equivalent qualification (NQF Level 7) in arts management, cultural leadership, business administration, or a related field.
- A postgraduate qualification (NQF Level 8) in Business Administration or a similar field will be advantageous.
Experience
- At least seven years of executive leadership experience in the arts or business sectors.
- Proven track record of revenue growth and organisational turnaround.
- In-depth knowledge of the arts and creative industries.
- Strong financial acumen and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated success in leading and developing high-performing teams.
