SA: Zonke, Ladysmith Black Mambazo to headline Pretoria concert
Top South African artists Zonke Dikana and Ladysmith Black Mambazo have been confirmed for the 20th edition of the Moretele Park Tribute Concert in Pretoria, South Africa, on 1 September.
Other artists billed for the concert are Mafikizolo, Vusi Nova, Tsepo Tshola, BET Award winner Sjava and veteran jazz luminary Jonas Gwangwa. They will be joined by Don Laka, Ringo Madlingozi, Amanda Black, Letta Mbulu and Caiphus Semenya.
“The programming of the 20th edition of the concert characterises the many facets of South African music," the organisers said. "Curating a rich tapestry of diverse music, the line-up truly reflects the many cultures and genres of music that we have come to love and embrace as South Africans."
The event will also host a music business workshop for the independent music industry and its stakeholders.
“We are excited to be celebrating such a milestone as the concert and also take this time to reflect on and celebrate Madiba’s [Nelson Mandela's] legacy through an exceptional line-up of musicians,” event organiser Sam Mangwane said. “What’s also special is that one of his favourite music groups, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, will be on stage.
“The internationally acclaimed, five-time Grammy Award-winning group travelled with him to Oslo in Norway when he received the Nobel Peace Prize. They also sang when he was inaugurated as president and enjoyed many special appearances with him.”
Mangwane said the event would benefit the Tshwane metro. “We look forward to providing access to some of the best musicians in South Africa through our specially curated programme and line-up while also contributing to the development of our cultural economy in the capital city, Tshwane, South Africa,” he said.
Tickets to the event are available via Computicket and Checkers and Shoprite stores.
