Van Vicker's arts school to consider Liberian students scholarship
Nollywood actor Van Vicker has said his eponymous performing arts school in Liberia might give scholarships to children passionate about the arts.
- Van Vicker has said his arts school is making scholarship arrangements.
He made the disclosure during a visit to the school, which is located at Benson Street in Liberia's capital city, Monrovia.
“I am still working on a lot of great arrangements to ensure that at a certain point in time this school will be offering free programs for Liberian kids with a passion for arts and this will contribute greatly towards a successful country,” he said.
The Liberian-Ghanaian actor had established the school with a view to providing Liberian talent with some promotion.
“The school is dedicated to providing an outlet for inspiring Liberian musicians and filmmakers and an opportunity to learn skills about their arts,” he said at the school’s launch last December.
“Liberia has talents; most of those with the talents, lack the skills. I decided to open this work as my way of helping to promote and develop their talents. The teaching staff will comprise of an educated body of filmmakers, dancers and actors who will fly into Liberia from abroad, to provide industry-driven training to the students.
The Van Vicker School of Performing Arts School, says a statement, runs a programme “designed to educate artists and future artists with practical, hands-on experiences in the performing and fine arts: film, music (voice coaching, piano, guitar, drum lessons), acting, dance (praise, ballet, tap, jazz, modern, hip hop, African, Chinese, Lebanese) and musical theatre.”
During his visit, Vicker offered some words of motivation to the students. “Keep doing what you are doing; we have started something very small and understand that there will be struggles, but we should not give up. Just envision the light at the end of the tunnel, and I am sure we will leave a legacy with the level of work that will be done at this school.”
