Open call: National Arts Merit Awards People’s Choice
The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) is inviting the public to nominate their favourite artists in the People’s Choice category ahead of the 23rd edition of the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) ceremony on 1 March.
The People’s Choice award is one of NAMA’s most prestigious awards, allowing the public to vote for who they believe is most deserving of the honour. Artists from Zimbabwe, representing various genres (music, dance, theatre, literature, spoken word, comedy, visual arts, television, and radio), are eligible for nomination for the People’s Choice award.
The public can nominate their favourite artists here before 5 February, after which the top five nominees will be announced two weeks before the awards ceremony. Voters may also visit any NAMA social media platforms to vote and for more information.
Top artist Winky D emerged victorious in the People’s Choice category last year, beating out Voltz JT, SaintFloew, Holy Ten, and Mai Kirifodhi. This win came despite widespread criticism of NAMA organisers for not nominating Winky D in the same category as Jah Prayzah, who, alongside Winky D, is arguably one of the biggest names in Zimbabwean music.
