Call for auditions: Moshito MTV Base Demo Talent Search
Aspiring musicians are invited to enter the Moshito MTV Base Demo Talent Search under the sponsorship of Moshito Music Conference and Exhibition, which takes place at Newtown Music Factory in Johannesburg from 6 to 8 September.
To qualify, applicants should purchase a Moshito ticket at Computicket, Checkers or Shoprite from R200 and be at Newtown Music Factory on 3 September to showcase their demo.
A panel of judges made up of industry experts, including musicians, radio compilers and celebrity guests, will judge the talent and select 20 participants who have the most promising potential. The 20 will be called back on 7 September when a winner will emerge.
“The winner will receive a career starter pack filled with all the essential tools worth over a R100 000," the organisers said. "This includes a professional demo recording, professional biography, a music video to be aired on MTV Base and BET along with their music sampled to local radio stations to help them zoom up the ladder.”
Moshito general manager Sinamandla Kwepile said: “Moshito brings together industry practitioners, experts and talent scouts (booking agents, A&R managers, festival and concert directors) from all over the world.
"The platform given by this conference to emerging talent is an opportunity that every aspiring musician should take up without hesitation, which is to present their music in front of industry decision-makers.”
BET youth and music vice-president Monde Twala said the Moshito MTV Base Demo talent search intended to afford aspiring musicians the opportunity to achieve their dreams.
“MTV Base and BET strive to elevate young talent across Africa and provide them with a platform to learn and shine,” he said.
“As a network with some of the biggest global media brands, we are honoured to be part of Moshito, which is this important industry-led initiative that supports aspiring local artists with the opportunity to showcase their talent.”
