The album will be released via his independent label Young Legend, in partnership with Warner Music Africa.
Produced by Xtofa and Tempoe, ‘Taxi Driver’ is available for streaming and download on major digital platforms. In the lead-up to the single’s release, Joeboy teased the track through a series of short videos, where he took on the role of a taxi driver, ferrying high-profile Nigerian personalities around Lagos. These videos featured candid conversations about relationships, offering fans insight into the inspiration behind the song.
Joeboy described the concept behind ‘Taxi Driver’, highlighting the unique intimacy of conversations that take place in taxis. It is a soulful reflection on human connection, exploring the psychological dynamics of relationships through warm, melodic production. The song follows Joeboy’s previous single, ‘SMH’, released earlier this year, and continues his signature blend of Afrobeats and emotive storytelling.
The upcoming 13-track album, Viva Lavida, reunites Joeboy with long-time collaborator Tempoe, who previously produced his hit ‘Sip (Alcohol)’ as well as ‘SMH’. The album’s title, which translates to ‘Live Life’, reflects Joeboy’s philosophy of embracing self-awareness, inner peace, and resilience in the face of adversity.
“Life is unpredictable, and bad times are inevitable, but the one thing you can control is how you react and live,” Joeboy said. “I choose to live free. No matter how many times I get my heart broken, no matter whether I succeed or fail in life and love, Viva Lavida!”
The announcement of Viva Lavida and the release of ‘Taxi Driver’ coincide with Joeboy’s 2025 world tour, which began with sold-out shows in Australia earlier this year. The tour will continue with performances across Europe, including stops in Copenhagen, Rome, Milan, Stockholm, and Amsterdam, before heading to the UK for headline shows in Manchester, London, Birmingham, and Leicester in June.
Since emerging in 2017, Joeboy has established himself as one of Africa’s leading contemporary artists, accumulating over two billion global streams. His viral hit ‘Sip (Alcohol)’ alone has garnered 135 million Spotify streams, solidifying his influence in the Afrobeats scene. In 2024, he launched his independent label, Young Legend, in collaboration with Warner Music Africa, with releases under the imprint amassing 80 million streams to date.
As Joeboy continues to expand his global presence, ‘Taxi Driver’ marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his musical journey, offering fans a glimpse into the next phase of his evolving artistry.
