Kenya's Redsan to feature big artists at album launch
Kenyan dancehall singer Redsan is set to launch The Baddest, his fifth studio album, at the Carnivore Grounds in Nairobi, Kenya, on 15 September.
Confirmed acts for the event include Jamaican artist Demarco, Nigeria’s Tiwa Savage and Kenyan rapper Khaligraph Jones. Kenyan DJs Kriss Darlin and Wesley will mix live.
The 17-track album features Demarco, Khaligraph Jones, Naila (Jamaica), Ervix (Tanzania), Jose Chameleone (Uganda) and Yvonne Darcq (Kenya).
“I'm bringing my long-time friend Demarco who I have also collaborated with on the album as the event’s main feature,” Redsan told the local media.
“I have also worked with Khaligraph before and we happen to share a similar vision. Tiwa Savage was an easy choice for me because she is one of the ladies I really admire in the Afrobeats scene. Plans to work with her are already under way.”
Redsan told Music In Africa that the album’s creative process had been effortless.
“There was no obstacle per se because we were prepared and knew what needed to be done,” he said. “Although a lot of people thought that I was just silent and enjoying my life, I was busy working all through. They'll know what I'm talking about when the album drops.”
Redsan said the album would be released exclusively on Safaricom's digital platforms. He also commended the Kenyan telco for supporting the local music industry by creating promotional platforms for local artists.
Redsan also spoke about the importance of brand building.
“I think it's important that artists first of all are able to build brands that are sponsor-worthy. Besides just being an artist, there should be a business angle that can be attractive to sponsors. That way, corporates will be interested in working with them because they know they'll get value in return," Redsan said.
