Jazz In South Africa (JISA)
Bio
The Jazz In South Africa (JISA) is project maintained by Jonathan Eato. It is a result of research work through the Music Department at the University of York (UK) and a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa.
Its aim is to investigate various aspects of jazz in South Africa through musicians who make the music. Its JISA website aims to be well developed so that it can become a freely accessible online resource which will feature statements by musicians, research on the music, and on JISA Records. The website also welcomes submissions in form of interviews with musicians.
It is has a collection of audio recordings of interviews of some of South Africa’s jazz legends, including Winston Mankunku and Hugh Masekela.
