Center for World Music
Bio
The Center for World Music at the University of Hildesheimin Germany houses extensive audio and instrument collections. These include the "Music of Man archives" of the ethnomusicologist Wolfgang Laade on loan from the Foundation of Lower Saxony with 45,000 recordings, 12,000 books and 1,000 music instruments. It also houses the comprehensive collection of music instruments of the private collector Rolf Irle with 3,000 objects. Additionally, it houses the Robert Gunther instrument collection and the Hamid Ouamara CD collection.
In addition to the digitization and indexing of local stocks, the CWM has been involved in the protection and cataloging of music archives abroad. Previous projects were dedicated to collections from Sierra Leone, Malawi, Ghana and the Coptic Church in Egypt.
