Call for applications: Norman Music Festival 2019
The Norman Music Festival is calling on musicians around the world to submit applications for a chance to perform at its 2019 edition, which takes place from 25 to 27 April in Oklahoma in the US.
Founded in 2008, the festival is known for featuring more than 300 performances from local, regional and national musicians. Interested artists can apply online using this form. The deadline for applications is 15 November.
“Anyone can apply, but we are a free/non-profit music festival with a limited budget,” Norman Music Festival organisers told Music In Africa. “International travel can be cost-prohibitive unless artists are already in the US at the time of the festival.”
Norman Music Alliance board member Joshua Boydston told local media that they “love to feature big touring headliners, but we like to use those as a means to drive people here to get eyes and ears in front of local performers. It’s not that there’s anything we’re looking for, we’re just wanting to try and showcase the best and brightest artists around here”.
Boydston added: “The major thing is having something to listen to. It’s really hard to book a band if we can’t listen to them,” he said. “It doesn’t have to be a high-dollar studio recording at all. We’re more than happy to showcase things that are raw that are really interesting.
“Don’t feel like you’re not good enough, and don’t feel like if you don’t get selected you’re not good enough. Just getting your name out there in front of us helps a lot. Anything that is interesting and good, we’re interested in showcasing."
