Call for applications: 2019 Thekgo Bursary in SA
British organisation Canon Collins Trust is calling on students who have been admitted for 2019 studies at universities in KwaZulu-Natal province, South Africa, to apply for Thekgo Bursaries.
The bursaries are designed for registration fees for courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level in the following disciplines:
- Arts (music, digital arts, drama/performance studies, visual arts/fine arts, history of art, film and television studies).
- Languages and literature.
- Media studies.
- Gender studies.
- Education.
These bursaries will only be awarded to students admitted for first-year studies (undergraduate or postgraduate) at public universities in the province for any of the above disciplines.
How to apply
Applicants are encouraged to read the guidelines before applying. Applications should be sent via an application form and supporting documents to thekgo@canoncollins.org.uk.
The application deadline is 17 December.
Eligible institutions are:
- Durban University of Technology.
- University of KwaZulu-Natal.
- University of Zululand.
- Mangosuthu University of Technology.
NB: Applications will not be considered for other courses or institutions.
Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a national of or have refugee status in any African country.
- Be accepted for your first year of study at a university in KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa in 2019, for a full-time programme (undergraduate or post-graduate).
- Demonstrate academic merit.
- Be admitted to study within one of the listed areas.
- Demonstrate financial need.
“We usually dispense about five to seven bursaries per year depending on the number of applicants,” Canon Collins Trust said in a statement. “The selection committee decides on the actual amount that will be awarded to individual successful applicants, up to a maximum of R7 500 ($540).”
