SAMRO to host countrywide workshops
The Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) will conduct workshops in South Africa's nine provinces in March and April.
The campaign is aimed at educating SAMRO members and stakeholders about the critical issue of public domain works.
The collective management organisation (CMO) has so far released two dates for its workshops:
- 7 March: The Bat Centre in Durban (10am to 1pm).
- 8 March: Kaleidoscope, 56 Main Road, Cape Town (10am to 1pm).
SAMRO said further dates and venues for other cities would be announced in due course.
“The roadshow will unpack SAMRO’s current distribution rules in relation to arrangements of public domain works and will engage members on options to amend these rules. Benchmarking and comparisons with other territories around the world will also be discussed," the CMO said, adding that the workshops will be facilitated by senior SAMRO staff and board members.
SAMRO acting chairperson Relebogile Mabotja said: “We are taking SAMRO to the people with this outreach. We have identified the importance of education to arm the public with all the tools they need to benefit from the services we offer. We look forward to the lively interactions with the public.”
