Copyright Society of Nigeria
Bio
The Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) is the sole collective management organisation (CMO) approved by the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) to act on behalf of authors, composers, performers, publishers of musical works and owners of sound recordings in Nigeria.
COSON was set up as a result of a broad based agreement between the owners of musical works, the users of the works and the statutory regulators on the need of the industry to close ranks and have one formidable national collective management organization to promote and protect the copyright of practitioners in the Nigerian music industry.
COSON currently has 100 reciprocal agreements (and still counting) with collecting societies all over the world to ensure that her members’ works are protected wherever they may be exploited in the world. COSON by these agreements in turn ensures that the rights of members of these societies are protected and royalties due to them for music used in Nigeria are paid.
In 2016, COSON partnered with the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry to help with the "collection and distribution of performance royalties to rights holders and artists."
