Bongo Love
Bio
Since 2001 Bongo Love have been perfecting their unique fusion they call 'Afrocoustics', using guitars and traditional African instruments such as the mbira, marimba, djembe/bongo and congas. Together they create a unique Zimbabwean version of the global Afrobeat sound. Their original songs and vibrant dances have captured audiences for nearly a decade, making them one of Southern Africa's most exciting and diverse bands.
In March 2006, Bongo Love won the Zimbabwe leg of the Music Crossroads competition and went on to participate in the Interregional Festival in Maputo, Mozambique. Here they won the Ethno Music Prize. As a result, they were invited to perform in Sweden and the Dominican Republic, leading to their first major tour of the USA in 2007. Since then they have toured all over the world, playing on a variety of stages including festivals, camps, clubs and private functions. Highlights include opening for US band Dispatch at Madison Square Garden in New York in 2007 and playing at the House of Blues in Chicago in 2008. During their most recent tour of North America, Bongo Love hosted workshops to teach people to play the marimba and mbira.
