Call for submissions: SA Indie Film Fest 2019
The SA Indie Film Fest (SAIFF) is offering Music In Africa's readers 50% off their submission fee ahead of the festival's second edition in Cape Town from 24 to 26 May.
Interested individuals and studios are welcome to submit music videos, short films, short documentaries and VR experiences for consideration in 19 categories, including Best Music Video.
Last year's Best Music Video category was won by German filmmakers Sven Dreesbach and Phillip Primus, who worked on the 'Gasoline' video for Australian duo Fortnite. Fortnite changed its name to Dreaming of Ghosts towards the end of last year, possibly due to a name clash with the popular online game.
The 2019 submission deadline is 30 April and filmmakers can submit their videos here using the 'MUSICINAFRICA' promotional code to take full advantage of the discounted rate.
Submission rules
- Music videos submitted to SAIFF should not be longer than 10 minutes.
- Short films should be under 20 minutes, with a minimum length of 1 minute.
- Applicants are entitled to any amount of entries for the festival.
- There are no restrictions on how old your music video/movie is or when it was made.
- All genres are accepted.
- All films must come with English subtitles if not in English, with an exception for music videos and movies where English is the main language spoken.
SAIFF 2019
This year's SAIFF edition has featured more award categories, a bigger jury and more independent films. New jury members include actor Hakeem Kae-Kazim (Black Sails, Pirates of the Caribbean III), Kim Engelbrecht (The Flash, Dominion), Enhle-Mbali Maphumulo (Tshisa, Rockville) and Sibs Shongwe-La Mer (Necktie Youth).
SAIFF has also partnered with SA Horrorfest in adding a new award category for Best Horror Film, the winner of which will be featured at SA Horrorfest 2019 later in the year. In addition, SAIFF has appointed Berneen Cereska as its new festival director. Cereska will be working alongside Ryan Kruger at the helm of the festival.
Audiences can expect an expertly curated selection of short films, documentaries, music videos and VR experiences from around the world. Each film playing at the festival is specially selected from hundreds of submissions by the 12-member jury.
