Call for registration: SACO IP workshop in Cape Town
The South African Cultural Observatory (SACO) is calling on interested individuals to attend a capacity building workshop at the Centre for the Book in Cape Town, South Africa, on 10 July.
The workshop is intended to equip individuals with information on intellectual property in the South African arts industry.
The workshop is free and those interested should RSVP to tazleen.jooste@mandela.ac.za or SMS/WhatsApp her on 063 639 7653 before 10 July.
The workshop will address the following topics:
- What is intellectual property?
- What is the role and purpose of intellectual property and intellectual property law?
- What are the various forms of intellectual property?
- What are copyrights, patents, trademarks and designs?
- How are the different forms of intellectual property regulated in South Africa?
- What should artists do to acquire, protect and benefit from their intellectual property?
- What are the ways in which intellectual property rights can be infringed?
- What are the remedies to the intellectual property rights owner if the rights are infringed?
The workshop will run from 8.30am to 15.30pm at the Centre for the Book, 62 Queen Victoria Street, Cape Town.
