SA: Cashtime Life catalogue now available for streaming
Music released by South African hip hop label Cashtime Life is now available on all major streaming platforms.
The record label, whose partnership deal with Sony Music ended last year, is now working with licensing platform Africori to bring back all its music to various digital stores and streaming providers.
Cashtime Life is credited with launching the music careers of Kid X, Moozlie, Masandi and DJ Vigilante, K.O., Ma-E and Maggz. The Cashtime Life catalogue includes albums such as Ma-E’s Township Counsellor (2016), K.O.'s Skanda Republic (2014) and Kid X's 3 Quarter Pace (2015).
“What happened was that the distribution deal that we had as Cashtime Life with Sony Music ended some time last year,” K.O. told Music In Africa. “When the contract lapsed, Sony Music decided to remove everything that had to do with Cashtime Life and we had to look for a deal elsewhere. So, we decided to find a new catalogue.
“For a few of months we were figuring out where to take our deal and eventually we rereleased all our music through independent aggregator Africori."
The catalogue is available on Spotify, Deezer, Google Play, Apple Music and YouTube Music, among others.
"We are uploading the music as individual artists but we are marketing the music as Cashtime Fam and all the music that we released can be accessed on these streaming platforms,” K.O. said.
K.O. to release new tracks
K.O. said fans should expect a new release from him before the end of the year.
“I am planning on releasing a single in August and we are still finalising which song to release from the list of songs that we have. I am also working on a new album which is outside of Cashtime Fam and I will release it at the end of September,” he said.
