Call for applications: Intercultural exchange in Germany
The Brokering Intercultural Exchange Winter School is accepting applications for its 2019 programme in Berlin, Germany, from 27 to 29 November.
The programme is organised by Heilbronn University and the Brokering Intercultural Exchange (BIE) network, which seeks to understand the role of cultural managers as intercultural brokers in the context of globalisation, internationalisation and global migration.
In 2018, the programme hosted 30 aspiring cultural managers from Egypt, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, the US, UK, Spain, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Lebanon, Hungary, Poland and Bulgaria.
In this edition, the programme will host 35 masters and doctoral students in the arts and cultural management.
Participants will focus on participatory arts projects and will be engaged in lectures, workshops and case clinics by renowned researchers and practitioners.
The programme is free of charge but participants will be required to cater for their travel and accommodation fees. Selected participant from Africa will receive sponsorship covering travel expenses.
The application deadline is 16 August.

Why apply?
Participating students will:
- Gain exposure to participatory approaches to project design and delivery.
- Learn methods for developing a more reflexive practice, as part of project evaluation, that seeks to challenge assumptions and biases concerning exclusion.
- Consider how personal experiences and institutional structures shape processes of exclusion and inclusion.
- Meet and discuss with researchers and international professionals with years of experience in intercultural contexts.
- Visit cultural venues like the Barenboim-Said Akademie.
