Anko Layi
Bio
Anko Layi (real name Layison Njati) is an artist from Malawi. He is a singer, guitarist and producer. He owns a band known as The Boosters Band.The passion to become a musician caught up with him when he was 10. His interest in music saw him participating in a number of music related events both in primary and secondary.
After finishing high school, he enrolled fro music studies at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. He finished his studies and graduated with a Diploma in music reading, writing, and composing as well as being a vocalist.
After graduating, he came back home and started performing with Edgar ndi Davis Band. Shortly afterwards, he decided to go solo established his band and produced a new album titled ‘Khala Chete’. The album featured songs such as ‘Makwatirakwatira', ‘Mukadatani’, ‘Get Out’, ‘Zungulira Khonde’, ‘Ndimakunyadirani’, ‘Chiwa’, ‘Umbeta’, ‘Wanache’, ‘Finishing’, ‘Mulesi’, ‘Likita’ and ‘Chikondi Chenicheni’. It also featured artists such as Lucius, Piksy and Nepman on the ‘Khala Chete’ song.
The artist was nominated as the best guitarist for three years.
