Zim: Jacaranda Music Fest confirms dates, line-up
The 2019 Jacaranda Music Festival will be held at Hellenic Cultural Centre in Harare, Zimbabwe, from 3 to 5 October
The event, which is in its second edition, will run under the theme The City, The People, The Music.
Organised my local promoters Ngoma Nehosho, the event will be headlined by Zimbabwe’s Mokoomba and Ammara Brown as well as South African acts Black Motion, Ringo Madlingozi and DJ Zinhle.
Other confirmed artists include local acts Bryan K, Tamy Moyo, Sylent Nqo, The Black Spirits, The Djembe Monks, Bekezela & Norman Masamba, So Kindly, Mbeu & The Mhodzi Tribe, The Travellers, Jesa, Gudo Guru, DJ Chucknosis, Music According to Percussion, Houz of Gruv, Transit crew and Pro Beatz.
"I feel honoured to be playing at the 2019 Jacaranda Festival having been part of the 2018 edition,” Mbeu said. “I will take this opportunity to further sink my album The Mhodzi Diaries 1 to the market as I will perform the songs ‘Kondo’ and ‘Dambudziko’.”
Ishan said: "Music has always connected people in a great way and this is something that I love about this festival: it connects various people from various backgrounds and nothing beats music being at the heart of such a connection.”
The first day of the event will feature an all-day programme of free workshops, panel discussions, networking sessions and a showcase designed to benefit emerging and established artists as well as music industry professionals and practitioners.
“Experienced local and international presenters like Katherine McVicker of Music Works International, Munya Chanesta and Jotam Matariro from CAPASSO, Karabo Motijoane from Sheer Sounds, Marcus Gora from Mokoomba, to mention a few, have been lined up to impart their knowledge and this day's programme is sponsored by Africalia,” the organisers said.
The second day will feature performances from Black Motion, Ammara Brown, Bryan K, Sylent Nqo, Transit Crew, Music According to Percussion, DJ Chucknosis and Houz of Gruv – a band project directed by Mokoomba lead guitarist Trust Samende featuring Masa Caroleen, Kelvin Vito, Mafriq, Ishan, T Gonz and Rocqui Josphat.
The last day will feature Ringo Madlingozi, Mokoomba, DJ Zinhle, Mbeu & The Mhodzi Tribe, The Djembe Monks, So Kindly, Tamy Moyo, Bekezela and Norman Masamba, The Travellers, Pro Beatz, Jesa, Gudo Guru and a special tribute to the late Oliver Mtukudzi led by his band the Black Spirits.
