Jemima Baaba Haywood-Dadzie, also known as Baaba J, is a 22-year-old Ghanaian singer and songwriter who grew up in Tema. She attended St. Theresa’s School, Hariom International School, and Mfantsiman Girls’ Secondary School before pursuing a degree in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Ghana, Legon. Baaba J's music is a fusion of indigenous high life, pop, rap, and soul, and her sound is characterized by the soulful guitar and rich Ga language. Her debut EP, Lumumba St., released in December 2020, has propelled her career, and she has since performed at various events, including TEDx Ashesi University and Accra Indie Film Festival. She draws inspiration from her childhood experiences, her mother's gospel music, and artists such as Samini, Asa, and Beyoncé. Baaba J is on a mission to show the world that Africans, especially African women, have what it takes to take the world by storm with their unique, multi-faceted music.
