Bry-Niyu Music

Bryere is a Multidisciplinary artist who began to sing in church when he was ten years old. He was part of a choral at church; however, he was more interested in listening to traditional music from Burundi. He was also impressed by musicians playing traditional instruments which inspired him to learn how to play them all. He would go find elder players and ask them to play. He learned how to play “Umwironge” means the flute, then, he played “Umuduri”, “Ikembe” means the Lamellophone”, then he targeted to play a traditional guitar, “Inanga” means the Zither, and he still on playing with it everywhere he goes because he want to play on a professional level. Since he was using other musician’s instruments, he planned to buy his own and started to save money for it. He reached his goal, he bought a few instruments, not only he played with them, and he also learned how to make them. He has now invented a new music instrument called. The first song he wrote is called “Mawe Wanje means My Mother” using an instrument called “Ibicuba-Amazina” made from a calabash. He released his first song on January 20th, 2015. The song was well received by his neighbours, family and friends. The song was played in many bars in his city Gihanga, in bars where they sell Banana beer, very popular and important drink in Burundi culture served when people gather for social meetings and celebrations. People danced on his song and he was very pleased to see people enjoying his music. After a few weeks, he wrote a second song called “Shiramazinda” means ending curiosity”. He started to be known and was invited to entertain the community at many celebrations, such as weddings, graduations, and more. He also began to participate in local music competitions with other artists mostly elder musicians, because young musicians play popular music, such as Rap, RnB, Reggae etc. In my country I am one of the young men who play and sing traditional instrument and music. He won many competitions and he upgraded to compete in a provincial level and I won the competition. He was thankful to God almighty and his hard work paid off as he won first place in many competitions. There came another competition organized by the R.T.N.B Radio, where he used his other song called “Iterambere mu Burundi bwacu” means Make Progress in Our country Burundi, the competition took place in another province called “Bubanza” in North-West of the country. He won against eight neighbour Provinces. He began preparing for the final and won first place again. It gave him motivation to work again very hard and achieve his goal to travel the world, sharing his talent and encouraging young artists to work hard and make progress in whatever they do and also to not forget their culture and traditional music from Burundi.
