Bio
Chioma Ogbonna is a Singer/Songwriter, guitarist based in Lagos State, Nigeria. Born and raised in Edo State, Nigeria to a family of seven. She was drawn to music at an early age, her interest in music was fueled by her eldest brother who constantly introduced her to new music in various genres and her father who would wake up each morning to tunes from Jimmy Reeves, Christy Lane, Don Williams, Majek Fashek, Evi Edna, Sunny Okosun, etc..
She loves telling stories using music, stories about love and various life experiences. Always, connected to everything around her, most of her music comes from the different places she has been to and you will see how she will take you on these journeys through storytelling and with a passionate voice, pushing good music, one song at a time. Hers is a unique blend, featuring various sounds from alternative rock, Afro fusion, folk, soul, country music with splashes of her ‘African-ness’.
Through her journey in pushing good music, Cill has release seven tracks, 5 of her personal works and two collaborative works and a recently released musical video for one of her tracks, Tatarata. She keeps pushing through the complex music terrain and overcoming the hurdles of being an unsigned artist.
As a songwriter, she is the founder of the Songwriting Community; a community of songwriters who challenge each other to write more. She is credited for writing songs for the Biola Alabi movie, 'Lara and the Beat', and the official soundtrack of the movie “Miracle” by Belinda Efa.
Cill also uses her music for promoting social causes and is a member of the Music for Democracy Network collaborating with other artists from different parts of the world to push issues of democracy using music.
She is the winner of the 2019 Accountability Music Award by Accountability Lab and One Campaign, nominated alongside great artists such as Falz, Fatoumata Diawara, Sauti Sol and Platinum Prince, she is a fellow of the Music for Democracy Network by the World Movement for Democracy.
She is also an ambassador of the Fair Play an initiative of Transparency International and JM International, after emerging one of the winners of the Fair Play Music Competition, 2020. Fair Play is a global platform for young artists to express themselves through music and the arts, to connect with global change makers fighting corruption and amplify these messages.
She has shared the stage with various Artists like Joe Boy, Fireboy, Olamide, Johnny Drille, MI, Poe, Di’Ja etc. Her mash up cover of Joeboy and Fireboy’s songs ‘baby’ and ‘jealous’ receives rave review from all her listeners, reaching over 600,000 streams on YouTube. She’s gradually working her way up to becoming a known name.
