Drew Moyo

Drew Moyo is a Malawian artist, producing electronic music based on traditional Malawian beats and sound. With diverse influences from soul, funk, R&B, hip-hop and traditional African sounds, he has created a unique style that comes with a dance guarantee.

Raised in Lilongwe, Malawi, he started early as a radio producer and moved south to Blantyre to pursue his career. He then released his debut album, "The Journey", in 2008, which is held to be Malawi's first release of house/dance music. In collaboration with Beating Heart Malawi Remix, he released “Munthu” in 2016. Also contributing to the release was UK based Rudimental, MyNUleng and Petar Rabbit. Under Beating Heart, Drew released the EP "Vimbuza" (2017), based on the tradition spirit-possession healing dance by the same name, found amongst the Tumbuka people of northern Malawi.

Since then, Drew has performed DJ sets at different festivals in Africa, most notably Lake of Stars (2018), and in the UK, including renowned Glastonbury Festival (2017), Kaya Festival in South Wales (2016) and Shambala Festival (2016). He has also several club performances in Northern Europe and the Baltic states, and featured as the supporting act for Faith Mussa's Scandinavian tour in 2018 and was then signed to Ujeni Records in the beginning of 2019.
