Gynah

Gynah (Regina Beraldo Kihwele) is an International artist. This 25 year old performing and recording singer-songwriter, award winning actress, fashion icon, activist, filmmaker and mental health advocate was born
and raised in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Gynah got her first breakthrough in 2016 on a Broadway show that was produced by Lady Toussaint Duchess from the United States where she had the chance to sing and act on stage.

After graduating from high school in 2017, Gynah decided to take some time to master her crafts and find herself through her passions. She started by volunteering to choreograph children from different schools for two years.

In October 2017 she started her internship with Focus Production as the assistant director to Mtitu and did her first screenplay in the series Jirani the following year.

Gynah contested for Miss Kinondoni in July 2018 after her weight loss that was sparked off by her fitness journey, she started earlier that year through rigorous workouts and a healthy meal plan.

In 2019 she got a part as a supporting actress in the award winning film Binti directed by Seko Shamte. In April 2020 she got a chance to act in the series, Nakupenda Kufa with Idris Sultan.

Gynah released her first single ‘It’s You’; audio and visuals online in October 2020 and officially launched her music career and ‘It’s You’ video on 17th December 2020.

Gynah volunteered at the Little Theatre as the wardrobe manager for a year before soft launching her clothing line KAHAWA by Gynah on Women’s Day in 2021. In May 2021 she joined the filmmaking programme “Sauti Mpya” that was facilitated by Walt Mzengi under Nafasi Art Space.

Gynah played the leading role in the Mulasi (my friends) film as a depressed lawyer woman directed by Honeymoon Aljabri in 2020 and in November 2021 she won the Best Actress in Africa Award presented at the Lake International Pan African Film Festival (LIPFF) in Nairobi, Kenya for her role in Mulasi.

Gynah launched Kahawa Night Festival on 24th September 2021, the annual event infuses fashion runways by Gynah and live music from Gynah and guest artists.

She got a chance to open the Lady in Red 2021 show as the Lady In Red dressed up by Asya Khamsin and performed her original song ‘It’s You’ and got a chance to showcase and represent KAHAWA By Gynah as a designer in the 2022 Lady In Red runway.

Gynah is one of the founders of the ongoing Nafasi Film Club founded early 2022 at the Nafasi Art Space that is facilitated by both Walt Mzengi and True Hinds.

Gynah was nominated as Best Upcoming Actress by the Tanzanian Film Festival Awards in 2022. On 30th December 2022 held the second edition of Kahawa Night under the programme Museum Art Explosion at the Museum House of Culture.
