Bio
Kwamiena is an Afro-fusion musician from Ghana.
Formally known as Immanuel Emmanuel in the musical arena, KWAMIENA (born Emmanuel Yawson), who started singing at the age of six, made his major entry into the music scene in 2011 when he won Season 5 of ‘MTN Stars Of The Future’, the hit music reality show organized by Charter House. Since then, KWAMIENA has graced major local and international platforms such as MTN FA Cup Finals 2015 (singing the Ghana National Anthem before kickoff) Music Imbizo 2019 in Durban, South Africa, Felabration 2019 in Lagos, Nigeria, Stanbic Jazz Festival and has collaborated and performed alongside music greats such as Femi Kuti, Shasha Marley, Ssue, Bibie Brew, Richard Bona amongst others.
From theaters to churches and all the way to the stadia, Kwamiena is steadily staking a claim to his place both in the music industry and in the hearts of music lovers with his heart-melting soulful voice and extraordinary versatility. His musical intuition drives him to combine distinctive western genres of music like neo-soul, country, pop, and rock with African musical elements and gospel to create his own unique sound.
His mixed bag of musical expression lends credence to the fact that he is inspired by artists such as OSIBISA, Fela Kuti, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Prince, Salif Keita, Fantasia Barrino, Sam Cook, James Brown, Adele, Sam Smith, Paapa Yankson, Kirk Franklin, Whitney Houston, Richard Bona, Frank Sinatra, Al Green, Angelique Kidjo, Zahara, Joyous Celebration, and the list goes on and on. Although he studied Business Administration at the Central University Ghana, CUC, where he majored in Management Studies, Kwamiena became a music mentor and coach in a number of international schools and is also a director of music for various choirs and music groups.
"My Time" and "Midnight Cry" are a few of the songs he has released which are enjoying good airplay.
As a singer/songwriter armed with a powerful voice, Kwamiena is an embodiment of Spirit, Soul and Afro: Spirit because he receives inspiration from the Spirit of God; stemming from his strong Christian faith; Soul because he seeks to inspire, encourage, and positively influence the souls of people; the real battlefield where decisions are made as to be the best we can or stay right where we are. In this regard, Kwamiena seeks to be a catalyst for positive change in every way. He embraces the unique African sounds that are represented in our music all over the continent, while embodying a touch of Africa in his fashion sense, hence the Afro component. Kwamiena's Spirit, Soul and Afro outlook is his way of serving Ghana, Africa and the entire world showing incredible authenticity and positivity that will have everyone asking for more.
On 25 March 2020 the singer released his first EP (Extended Play), titled “AMONUA (A Love Thing”. With four incredibly written and produced songs, ‘Amonua feat Ananse Band’ (title track), ‘Send an Angel’, ‘Dark World’ and ‘Halleluja’, Kwamiena is ready for the world...
