Motheo
Bio
Motheo is a versatile singer who explores various musical genres, ranging from gospel and soul to traditional African music, jazz, Afropop, soft rock, and deep house, among others. His versatility can be attributed to his experience as a songwriter, having written for numerous music acts and artists.
He holds a university diploma in Music Education and a BA degree in Music from North West University. While at university, Motheo made history as the first black person to win the highly coveted "Individual" category at the prestigious Standard Bank Talentfees, held annually at the university and considered a major event on Potchefstroom’s cultural entertainment calendar. It was during this time that he began singing lead, writing, and arranging music for several bands, including Jazz Garden, Impact, and Eternal.
Motheo later went on to form the Eternal Community Choir, a 60-voice acapella choir that he conducted. He was also part of Ngoma Vuma Africa, a musical group that toured Germany, Holland, and the UK. The group performed gumboot dancing, Setswana and Zulu dances, and indigenous African music, fused with djembe drumming and percussion, to sold-out audiences.
In addition to his performance career, Motheo has coached and written music for Daniel Speaks Ministries, a Botswana-based acapella group of 15 vocalists that released an album and is currently working on a second album, which he will produce. He was also a top 9 finalist on E-TV's first talent search show, Backstage Superstar, where he represented the North West Province in the semi-finals.
Motheo’s passion for writing music and singing led him to participate in the first season of Clash of the Choirs South Africa, where he sang lead on three songs for Team Zakes, which placed third in the finals. He was also featured on Khaya Mthethwa’s religious music talk show Gospel, performing a solo and a duet with acclaimed gospel musician Tshepiso Motaung.
Additionally, Motheo has sung lead and conducted the Gauteng Pop Choir on Hulisani, a gospel music show on DSTV’s Dumisa TV. He also appeared as a guest presenter on Dumisa TV’s MyChurchMix, which was a brilliant success with viewers.
Motheo has released his gospel single, "Modimo wa Boikanyo," on major online stores and is featured on several house music tracks with Antony Crox, Profound Roar, and other DJs.
He is already booked for what will be his biggest performance yet at the Nketoana Music Fest 2024 in Free State, which will take place on December 29-30, 2024.
