Cultural Entrepreneurship Grounded in African spirituality and indigenous identity, Nilotika Cultural Ensemble (NCE) is an arts based community organization in Kampala. The capital city of Uganda. Open to all children, youths, adults and elders, NCE serves as a hub for groups and individuals who are passionate about music dance, music production, fashion design, tailoring and African crafts.
Nilotika Cultural Ensemble. Under the leadership of Jajja Kalanda, the Ensemble provides an outlet for the youth of Uganda in skills like mentoring in spirituality, training traditional musical instruments, singing, dancing, music production tailoring and hand crafts making practices (mostly) underprivileged communities around the cities, rural areas and performing at various events.
A live performance by NCE highlights the power and intensity of the Buganda drums/traditional musical instruments . but also performs different traditional music, dances and drumming; like the Bagisu, Banyoro, Bakiga, Basoga, Banyankole, Westnile dance, Acholi, etc, and famously known for their; massive percuss, (percussion discussion) Traditional reggae, Culture muffin, (dancehall) indigenous Hip hop, Afro soul, Afro house hits. Audience members can anticipate traditional songs, compelling call and response, vibrant hand-made costumes and energetic dances. Performances further showcase genres like experimental, roots reggae, Dancehall, indigenous Hip hop,Afro soul and afro house hits
Nilotika cultural Ensemble has been dazzling audiences in east Africa and Africa at large for many years. Highlights include sharing the stage with Chronix and Anthony B, and performing on international platforms like Nyege Nyege festival (UG), Bayimba International Arts festival (UG) 2017 and 2022, Raggae on the Nile (UG), Roast and Rrhyme (UG), Batalo East dance fest (UG), Break fast jam dance festival (UG), Jazz safari (UG) and Naivasha rift valley festival (KY) Afro-Zilla festival (UG) etc.. Dedicated to honouring their roots, Nilotika cultural ensemble performs regularly for the people of kampala in local venues, hosting community drum circles and offering free shows at the different locations.
