Nothando Migogo
Bio
Nothando Migogo is an Intellectual Property practitioner in the arts broadly, and music specifically, specialising in royalty management and licensing arrangements.
She holds an LLB (2003) and LLM (2008) from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits). Migogo is currently an executive director and co-founder of Sosela Legal & Advisory, a business strategy and legal advisory company that specialises in the music and entertainment sectors.
She is also co-founder of 1020 Management and currently serves as group executive director of the 1020 Group of companies which includes 1020 Management, which is the management, publishing, agency and licensing arm of the group, and the record label 1020 Cartel.
Migogo sits as a non-executive director on the boards of the Copyright Clearance Center (US) and Gallo Music Investments (SA).
Prior to Sosela and the 1020 Group, Migogo’s executive and board experience includes SAMRO CEO, CAPASSO CEO and non-executive board member of CISAC.
She has a special interest in the management of African intellectual property (indigenous knowledge) and the digital market place. She previously served as the Managing Director of DALRO, a SAMRO subsidiary that administers literary, artistic and dramatic rights. A lawyer by training, Migogo has previously worked in educational publishing and as a tax consultant, and during her DALRO stint was named by the Mail & Guardian as one of its Top 200 Young South Africans to watch.
