Paras Dlamini

Bio

Born and raised in Kwamashu and Ulundi, South Africa, Paras Dlamini, affectionately known as Paras, has evolved into a renowned vocalist, songwriter, composer, and performer.

Paras discovered his musical talent at a young age, learning to play drums at church. He attended Masibumbane High School in Ulundi, where he excelled in sports (volleyball and soccer) at the district level. Influenced by his late uncle's love for kwaito, African jazz, R'n'B, soul, and maskandi music, Paras' musical foundation was laid.

After completing high school, Paras moved to Durban and began sharing stages with notable artists like Joyous Celebration, Nqubeko Mbatha, and Judith Sephuma. In 2010, he presented his debut show, "The Journey Begins," a gospel concert, as a drummer, vocalist, composer, and songwriter.

Paras found his unique sound, "Ubuntu Soul Africa" (world music), in 2012/13, under the mentorship of jazz maestro Themba Mkhize. He collaborated with Themba Mkhize on the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Stage and began recording a jazz album produced by Mkhize and Nduduzo Makhathini.

In 2014, Paras transitioned into house music, collaborating with Durban-based DJs. His hit single "Vosho" (Benny Maverick ft. Paras) revived the Vosho dance, introducing him to the house music market. Subsequent collaborations with DJ Websta, Fisherman, Mondli Ngcobo, and Demor cemented his position.

In 2017, Paras signed with DJ Tira's record label, Afrotainment, and worked on the collaborative album "Afro Summer 2017" by Ezase-Afro.

Paras composed and recorded "Unongoma" for Linda Sikhakhane's album "Isambulo." He performed live at the Joy of Jazz (Main Stage) and toured with the SA/Swiss Celebration Group.

Paras' debut album, "Ingoma Busuku," produced by Nduduzo Makhathini, is a spiritual and evocative reflection of his musical journey.

With his versatile talent and eclectic sound, Paras Dlamini continues to captivate audiences, solidifying his position as a leading figure in South African music.
