PROMOTING TRADITIONAL INSTRUMENTS IN GOSPEL MUSIC .

I am fighting the stigma associated with traditional instruments in the gospel genre and tribalism.

Traditional instruments are stigmatized, demonized and associated with devil and ancestral worship, so many Christians don’t want to use them in worship, Western instruments are regarded as Holy and are mostly used in Church worship in this part of the world .one of my favorite quotation is by Rosa Luxemburg “Those who do not move , do not notice their chains”

I am running with the theme “you cant attach morality to an instrument, just like we cannot attach morality to a car, morality can only be attached to human beings who can think and reason .

All instruments are the same anyone must have the liberty to use any instrument of their choice.

Tribalism has contributed much to underdevelopment in Africa as ethnic groups cannot work well together in private and public sector for the good of the society at Large, I am singing in many African languages to try and break this ice, people align themselves in tribal lines which is negative for the development of Africa, more often than not sabotage rears its ugly face, this is very unfortunate.

Professionally l am stockbroker trading at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and offshore markets, l am also into financial planning , Estate Planning and Investment Planning , My primary qualification is a BSc Economics Hons , promoting traditional instruments and going into arts is a passion

I ventured into mbira gospel despite risking a stigma-inspired backlash from Christian community and friends, l have however received a lot of support to my surprise and recognition , cash and kind , encouragement , morally from friends , family in particular and the society at Large

“I want to promote an authentic Mbira gospel sound with Mbira being the main instrument, l am however promoting all African traditional instruments, African drum, African trumpet, African shakers ,Marimbas to name just a few, l am creating a new sound to the ear and to the gospel music industry , something different .

“I am taking Mbira and other traditional instruments not as a tribal instrument but as a national and international instrument,

I am also involved in special needs ministry dealing with marginalized members of the society, the deaf especially promoting the use of sign language in public places , this has helped many people who for long have felt excluded. I am using the traction I am getting from doing music to look for sponsorship to run this ministry. I am happy it is yielding good results.
