Shashika Mooruth
Bio
Shashika Mooruth is a world class singer from South Africa.
She is the 2018 South African Awards (SAMAs) recipient of International Achievement Award presented by the President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa. She is also a US Billboard Artiste.
Widely traveled to more than twenty-five countries, her voice with its unique timbre is her passport to much acclaim. She has had the honour of performing for a select audience at the United Nations in May 2006 receiving overwhelming applause. The late world-renowned Pakistani singer and Grammy winner Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Saheb heard her sing in Mumbai and was all praise for her talent and voice which he described as ‘steeped in soul and emotion’.
In 2003, she launched her independent music label URJA MUSIC. Her interest as a music producer, songwriter and recording artist. She hasspent less time as a stage performing artist and produced more than fifteen successful albums and singles that enjoy popularity worldwide.
In 2015, her productions saw her single 'Manzil Tu Hi' on number 29 on iTunes SA Top 100 in World Music. Her World Music album Krishna, the Flute Player was at no. 14 on the US Billboard Chart. In 2020, her concert won the Standard Bank Ovation Award at National Arts Festival Fringe, Makhanda, South Africa.
