Thapelo Lefifi

Bio

Thapelo Lefifi is a young musician from Mamelodi, a township in the east of Pretoria the capital city of South Africa known for its love for Jazz and House music and its vibrant culture and most interesting dialect
He started singing at the age of 7 at Sunday School in the Mamelodi Phahameng Dutch Reformed Church which was his family’s spiritual home at the time. At the age of 13 he converted to a Pentecostal church after he had a divine encounter with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. he go born again and found a spiritual home at Worship Centre Community Church situated in the township of Nellmapius Pretoria…there he joined the church youth choir under the leadership of Mr Andy Mabena where he further rediscovered and developed his talent as a vocalist.
In 2016 he left the WCCC community in search for a spiritual home that was closer to where he stayed and that’s when he became a member of the Mamelodi International Assemblies Of God where he met the Gospel duo and couple Bongi & Collin, he auditioned for the church worship team and in no time he was one of the tenors in the team and is currently a worship leader in the church.
In 2009 after a streak of unfortunate occurrences regarding his pursuit for an academic qualification in music he auditioned for the Tshwane Gospel Choir where he was well received as a tenor and even featured on the choir’s debut album in a song called “Righteous Banner” where he did a duet with one of the choir members.
He left the TGC in November 2011 in pursuit for growth and development and found himself forming part of a band called Zuri Afrika in 2012 as a lead vocalist, the band went on to record an album called Peu which was released in 2015.
Below are some of the highlights of his musical career:
During his tenure at the Tshwane Gospel choir he scored his first gig as a tenor vocalist for the SAMA and Crown Gospel award winning duo outfit Bongi and Collin. In 2011 he became part of the resident band for a project that held a series Gospel shows called Mega Gospel run by a company called StepLemist.
He formed part of the Music team that performed the prestigious Mr Caiphus Semenya and Mama Letta Mbulu’s music at the prestigious 80th birthday celebration of Mr Caiphus Semenya on the 27th of August at the Johannesburg Market Theatre.
In 2020 He was part of a team that shot a music concert with the dynamic Afro pop singer Kelly Khumalo and continues working with the Kelly Khumalo team to date.
Thapelo Lefifi also operates under a different alias/stage name for the purpose of being able to do circular music without interrupting the “Thapelo Lefifi” …The name is known as Mr Romeo, Romeo being his second legal name, the character Mr Romeo has went to...
