Afropunk returns to Jozi
Afropunk festival is returning to Johannesburg after making a successful debut on the continent last year.
In the lead-up to the talent announcement, Afropunk has now introduced an interactive treasure hunt through which concertgoers will try to guess which artists will perform on Constitution Hill come 30 and 31 December.
"Afropunk will host a Treasure Hunt with a difference," the festival said. "This exploration will give potential festivalgoers clues and quotes to guess the line-up before it is announced, and give them a chance to win a VIP trip to Afropunk Jo’burg 2018.”
This year’s theme is, The People Resist, “which is a call to arms against racism, patriarchy and any form of hate,” Afropunk said.
To stand a chance to win, festivalgoers have to complete the following:
- Search your photo albums and show Afropunk nizalawa ngobani (who raised you).
- Take a video of you and a friend playing catch with a lotus plant.
- Go to an Internet cafe and listen to a song you loved as a kyd.
- Take a photo of you chilling on the beach holding a pineapple in the sky.
- Be loud. Be proud. Share your favourite resistance quote and hashtag #thepeopleresist.
More clues will be announced by young South African celebrities leading up to the event in December.
Last year the festival saw an attendance of about 20 000 festivalgoers gather on Constitution Hill to see performances from Laura Mvula, Nakhane, King Tha vs BLK JKS, Rude Boyz, Sho Madjozi and Blitz the Ambassadorm, among others.
Nakhane played Afropunk Paris at the weekend ahead of his Afropunk New York performance alongside Sho Madjozi and Manthe Ribane on 25 to 26 August.
