AKA’s ‘One Time’ music video premieres tonight
South African hip-hop sensation AKA drops the much-awaited music video for his latest single ‘One Time’ tonight (14 July 2016).
The video premieres on popular local TV show Top Billing, which will also feature exclusive interviews and scenes from AKA’s recent trip to the US for the BET awards. Top Billing starts at 8pm on SABC 3 and Dstv channel 193.
The rapper, whose real name is Kiernan Forbes, revealed the news on Twitter, sharing a snippet of the music video to his 114 million followers.
The video was produced by Studio Space Pictures Productions, a media and film production house that has worked with many top hip-hop acts in the country, including Cassper Nyovest, DJ Switch and DreamTeam.
According to AKA, the video will also air on MTV Base Africa on Friday at 4pm.
Produced by AKA himself, ‘One Time’ was released in April to positive reception, getting playlisted on BBC 1 Xtra in the UK and topping local charts on iTunes. The release came just two days after the release of another successful single ‘Dreamwork’ (featuring local rapper Yanga).
Born in Cape Town in 1988, AKA started out in 2002 in a group of schoolmates called Entity, who had a minor hit with a song called ‘Touch N Go', which got a Kora Award nomination in 2005 for Best African Hip-Hop. After leaving Entity AKA’s path remained en route to musical superstardom.
His 2011 debut album 'Altar Ego' was followed in 2014 by 'Levels', which went gold thanks to hits like 'Congratulate', 'All Eyes On Me' (featuring Nigerian star Burna Boy) and 'Sim Dope.
