BASA appoints new board directors
Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) has appointed Unathi Malunga and Makgati Molebatsi as non-executive board directors. The two were appointed following BASA’s public call for nominations in July.
"My career as an entertainment lawyer has always been about the effective marriage between business and my passion for the arts and creative industries and BASA represents precisely that," Malunga, who is a Fulbright fellow said. "I am honoured to serve both sectors through the invaluable work that BASA performs."
Malunga also serves as an executive officer at the South African Screen Federation.
Molebatsi, who has worked closely with BASA for some time, said: "My participation and relationship with BASA goes back a couple of years. With my accumulated years of corporate and business experience, as well as my continued passion for arts and culture, and networks in both, I look forward to effectively contributing towards BASA’s continued expansion.”
Molebatsi is also the founder and director of Mak’Dct Art Advisory. She has experience in the marketing, communications and advertising spaces.
Malunga and Molebatsi are expected to contribute to the overall success, governance and compliance of the organisation.
In the July call, BASA said the key objectives of the nomination process were to “have a board that consists of expert members who contribute actively to its functioning. Areas of address that members would be required to support would include fundraising strategies, marketing, policy and governance, and financial support.”
BASA was founded in 1997 as a joint initiative between the government and the private sector, as part of a strategy to secure greater involvement in the arts and from businesses operating in South Africa. Established as a Section 21 company, BASA is constituted in terms of the Companies Act and is registered as a public benefit organisation.
