Black Coffee song to feature on Drake’s upcoming mixtape
‘Superman’, a track by South African DJ Black Coffee, will feature on Drake’s upcoming mixtape. The ‘Deep in the Bottom’ hitmaker broke the news in an interview with a local radio station last week.
Black Coffee, who has been working with the US rapper, hinted about the new version of ‘Superman’ on Instagram late last year.
In the interview, Black Coffee said Drake had called to ask him to listen the new version of ‘Superman’ and give him his thoughts.
"He is going to take the song to another level,” Black Coffee said. “People are going to love his version of the song but it won't erase the original. People had mixed feelings, like, 'Why would you give someone else your song? It is your song! Why are you letting them shine on the song?' But my understanding is different. I would love for our music to be exported on that level."
Black Coffee’s manager, Amaru da Costa, said the two artists were still working on the final details of the project. "We need to finalise everything and once it has all been signed and is ready, we will comment on it," he said.
It appears the US musician has fallen in love with Black Coffee’s music. Last year, he listed ‘Superman’ on a special Apple Music radio show of his favorite tracks. Black Coffee’s music is taking centre stage in and outside Africa and his alliance with big-name international artists is increasing.
In July last year, the popular DJ made headlines by releasing a remix of US star Alicia Keys’ hit ‘In Common’. He also became the first South African artist to win a BET Award in the US. A multiple-award winner in South Africa, Black Coffee has graced world stages such as Southport Weekender, Panorama Bar, Circoloco and Boiler Room.
