SA: Bridges for Music drops second EP from Mix It Up project
South African NPO Bridges for Music (BFM), through its BFM Records imprint, has released an EP titled Mix It Up Vol. 2, which is available for streaming and download on various major digital platforms here.
Mix It Up Vol. 2 is the second release from the Nando’s Mix It Up project, which was launched in 2022 in partnership with BFM to celebrate Nando’s South African heritage and provide a platform for emerging music talent in the Bridges for Music network.
The project shines a light on the different sounds of South African and UK music scenes whilst driving Nando’s broader initiative to change lives through its connection and influence within the two countries.
The EP paired local amapiano producers MFR Souls, Mathandos, LuuDaDeejay and Dinho as well as vocalist Makhanj with fresh talent from UK, namely K-Trap, Kojey Radical, Lost Girl and Niko B, to showcase a unique fusion of cultures and musical styles. The result was a menu of tracks, which are fused with amapiano, UK drill, R&B, hip hop and rap.
With talent hand-picked by BFM and expertise input from the genre globalisers Major League DJz, Mix It Up Vol. 2 is a celebration of amapiano – a genre that is rapidly gaining traction across the globe.
It was recorded across Nando’s sponsored Flame Studios inside Constitution Hill and Nando’s Soho recording studio in London. Throughout the recording process, artists were required to write and record tracks in a collaborative process inspired by music influences from different continents.
Some of the songs on the EP include ‘Sacrifice’, ‘Deh Deh’, ‘Double Tap’ and ‘Vintage Golf’.
