Call for applications: 2020 French Institute residency in Paris
The French Institute headquartered in Paris, France, is calling on artists in different disciplines to apply for its January 2020 residency programme at the Cité Internationale des Arts.
Inaugurated in 1965, Cité Internationale des Arts hosts artists from all around the world and provides a conducive environment for artists in residency to meet their audiences and industry professionals for intercultural dialogue.
Each month, the centre, which is supported by 135 French and international organisations, hosts more than 300 artists from all disciplines, generations and walks of life.
The successful applicant will be awarded the residency for a period of three or six months and will be expected to finance their living and production expenses, which can be supported by a cultural institution or any other partners. The French Institute will only support the artist’s travel expenses.
The application deadline is 15 August and successful candidates will be notified in October.
The French Institute will accept applications from the following disciplines:
- Classical and contemporary music.
- Music for film and video games.
- Visual artist.
- Digital artist.
- Graphic artist.
- Virtual reality.
- Exhibition curator.
- Street art.
- Comic art.
- Design.
- Literature/children's literature.
Eligibility
There is no age limit, but to participate the applicant must:
- Be engaged in professional life.
- Speak French and/or English.
- Provide evidence of previous work.
- Be independent in the management of the residency.
- Be free from professional obligations throughout the period of the stay.
Requirements
- A summary of the project.
- Contact information (postal address, email, phone number).
- Details about the project in progress.
- Information on aid and residencies already obtained in the past.
- Information on funding to be received for this residency (for living and production expenses).
- A CV and a summary of the CV.
- A specific project for the residency, attached file (max five pages).
- Three photographs of the project, as well as one portrait of the artist with captions and copyright.
- A copy of a passport.
- A signed statement ensuring that the works to be presented are the artist's.
- Links to audio or video websites for excerpts when needed.
- Press articles (optional).

Applicants from Nigeria have to be supported and submitted by the French Institute in Nigeria.
