Call for applications: Art Moves Africa researchers in West Africa
Art Moves Africa (AMA) is recruiting a team of researchers living or working in West Africa for its regional mapping study, which is aimed at strengthening knowledge and information sharing about mobility and touring in the region.
The research study will aim to understand the factors that drive the dynamics of mobility in West Africa while highlighting existing obstacles and articulating recommendations.
The study will cover a period of five months, from February to June 2020. The researchers will be expected to submit their final reports by late June 2020. The research will be desk-based.
The applications deadline is 22 January and successful applicants will be notified on 1 February.
Responsibilities
- Identification and mapping of available infrastructure and human resources.
- Identification and analysis of opportunities and major obstacles to mobility in West Africa.
- Proposal for feasible and practical solutions to strengthen/diversify/enrich mobility in West Africa.

- Motivation letter, specifying the countries and artistic disciplines in which you have expertise.
Eligibility
The applicants must:
- Be West African or based in West Africa.
- Have in-depth knowledge of creative networks and dynamics in at least one of the following disciplines: visual arts, theatre and storytelling, music, dance, literature, and cinema.
- Have solid research experience (academic, institutional, journalistic, etc.).
- Have the ability to conduct interviews.
- Have strong writing skills in English or French.
Since its launch in 2011, AMA has facilitated cultural and artistic exchanges in Africa by awarding grants to artists and cultural practitioners living and working in Africa to travel within the continent to engage in information exchange, enhance their skills, develop informal networks and pursue cooperation.
AMA has previously conducted regional mapping studies in East Africa (2011-2015), Central Africa (2015) and North Africa (2019).
