Call for applications: Dance workshop in Tanzania
Haba na Haba Dance Festival will conduct a dance workshop and masterclass for traditional and contemporary dancers and choreographers at Nafasi Art Space in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from 8 to 11 July.
- South African artistic director Musa Hlatshwayo will perform at Haba na Haba Dance Festival.
The workshop is a part of the festival’s third edition and will be facilitated by choreographers Maura Morales (Germany) and Aloyce Makonde (Tanzania), who will engage participants in training, discussions and performances.
“The workshop offers training in a relatively new art form here in Tanzania,” festival founder Isack Abeneko said. “The workshops have a direct impact on increasing the exposure of the country’s traditional dance community to this new contemporary art form. Moreover, it serves as a much-needed networking opportunity to develop and strengthen the traditional and contemporary dance community in Tanzania."
Some of the areas that will be covered during the workshops include:
- Techniques of contemporary dance.
- Professional and personal management skills.
- Creating innovative choreography with flow.
- Physical training to strengthen the body, floor-work abilities and body awareness.
The workshops are free and will run from 10am to 1pm. Participants will also get to collaborate and share their own dance styles.
Interested individuals can register by sending an email to habanahabadance@gmail.com.
The showcase programme will run from 11 to 13 July at Temeke Pile in Dar es Salaam. The line-up will feature the Yombo, WakaWaka, Msimamo, Mdundiko and Wagogo traditional troupes as well as South African choreographer Musa Hlatshwayo.
