Call for applications: Female-only stage management training in Tanzania
The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) invites aspirant female stage managers based on the African continent to apply for an opportunity to participate in a weeklong stage management training programme at ACCES 2022 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The course is part of the foundation’s initiative titled Gender@Work, a pan-African, women-focused programme aimed at upskilling and increasing the participation of female professionals in the African music sector.
The deadline for applications is 4 September 2022 (midnight CAT).
Who can apply?
- This call is open to aspirant female stage managers based on the continent. This also includes those with interests in running festivals, in other capacities.
- Applicants must have at least two (2) years’ experience working in the live performance environment in positions such as stage manager, stage assistant, technical stage assistant, or related positions.
- A relevant tertiary qualification (academic) will be advantageous.
- All participants must be over 18 years old.
- Applicants should be prepared to be available for the duration of the programme (estimated arrival in Dar es Salaam on 20 November and departure from 27 November).
- Applicants should have a valid passport that allows for travel in November 2022.
- Applicants should be fluent in English.
Successful applicants will:
- Attend an intensive training workshop in Dar es Salaam from 21 to 26 November 2022.
- Complete a theoretical course on stage management.
- Learn about the key aspects of producing a successful music event (budgeting, technical aspects, talent management, partnerships, fundraising, etc.).
- As part of the practical module, participants will also get to work as stage managers at ACCES’ three showcases.
- Receive a certificate of completion at the end of the training.
Note:
Trainers will include top festival managers, arts administrators and engineers.
COVID-19 health and safety protocols and regulations in place at the time will apply.
Support for participants:
- Accommodation, meals and local transport (related to the training) will be provided.
- Flights will be provided for participants outside Tanzania to travel to and from Dar es Salaam.
- Travel costs (bus) will be covered for participants based in Tanzania outside Dar es Salaam.
- VISA costs will be reimbursed.
- A modest stipend will be provided.
