Call for applications: Ghana Music Awards UK
Organisers of the Ghana Music Awards UK have called for submissions ahead of the event's second edition.
The call was made at a press conference on 23 March at Starr UK Multimedia in Croydon, London. Only works released between April 2016 and April 2017 will be considered.
The event's CEO, Eric Nii Tetteh, said Ghana Music Awards UK was focusing on recognising Ghanaian artists working in the UK. This year, awards will be handed out in more categories than the 24 that were recognised in 2016.
Last year's event, which was organised by Alorida Promotions and West Coast UK, was held at the Splash Gaumont Palace in London. At the ceremony, Shatta Wale emerged as the big winner, taking the Artist of the Year honour from a nominee list that included Nero X, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Bisa Kdei, SP Kofi Sarpong, EL and Mr Eazi. He was also named Dancehall Artist of the Year. His hit song ‘Kakai’ was chosen as Song of the Year.
The 2017 Ghana Music Awards UK will take place on 9 September and the event will again be held at Splash Gaumont Palace.
