Call for applications: Global Citizen Fellowship in SA and Nigeria
Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD initiative and Global Citizen are calling on Nigerian and South African citizens between the ages of 21 and 25 to apply for the Global Citizen fellowship programme taking pace in both countries from 5 July 2021 to 20 June 2022.

The programme, which is co-funded by Tyler Perry, is an in-depth work experience opportunity aimed at skills development and empowering African youth.
Global Citizen will select 10 fellows from South Africa and five from Nigeria to be part of the experience. The initiative previously accepted 10 fellows from South Africa on an annual basis. Each participant will be provided with the skills and resources needed to help them secure work beyond their time with Global Citizen.
Who is eligible?
Interested applicants based in South Africa or Nigeria between the ages of 21 and 25 with a matric or secondary school certificate can apply to join the fellowship. Applicants must be able to house themselves in Johannesburg or Lagos for the duration of the programme.
How to apply
Applicants can send a two- to three-minute video explaining what makes them a Global Citizen, what role they believe young people can play in ending extreme poverty and what social issues they are taking action on. If you prefer writing, you can send a 500 to 700 word essay answering the same questions.
Applications can be sent to fellowship@globalcitizen.org with a copy of an ID or passport.
The deadline for submissions is 4 June.
Applicants from minorities and underrepresented communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
For more information, visit the Global Citizen application page.
“My experience has been one of growth and reflection,” Buhle Dlulane, who took part in the programme in 2020, said. “I have had the privilege of being reintroduced to parts of me through the curriculum that encouraged my critical thinking and an improvement of my self-awareness. I have also now become acutely aware of what it takes to pilot and sustain a movement that aims to change the world. There is so much more behind the scenes that people don't see and I enjoy seeing that first-hand. Overall, I have learnt that passion is at the centre and it must be accompanied by hard work, discipline, and resilience.”
