Artists

The organisers said the event would afford musicians the opportunity to be recognised in different countries.

“Artists have the opportunity to perform on state-of-the-art equipment in front of international media at the festival,” Lake of Malawi organisers said. “Please be aware that we can, unfortunately, only cover a few headliner acts’ expenses and the majority of artists from outside of Malawi perform for free. If you are coming from outside of the country, you will also need to cover the costs of getting yourselves to Malawi and must state clearly in your application how you will do this.

“There are a number of organisations that help with artist travel such as arts councils, Art Moves Africa, SAMRO and Hivos International. We are able to offer free camping and catering on the day of performance.”

Vendors

Vendors who are seeking more visibility, or who are representing a brand, should send enquires about Lake of Stars sponsorship opportunities to sharmila@lakeofstars.org.

“Vendors are an integral part of the festival experience,” the organisers said. “Commercial vendors, social enterprises and NGOs are all welcome to apply for a chance to engage with our onsite community. With thousands of people gathered on the beach for three days, it’s a great opportunity for business owners to reach new customers, promote their brand and make some fantastic sales. We have a limited number of pitches and are keen to provide an excellent variety of products and services to festival-goers.”

Volunteers

The organisers are looking for stewards, runners, stage managers, artist liaisons and photographers to assist with a range of activities to aid the production of the festival.

“All volunteer positions are unpaid, but Lake of Stars will accommodate volunteers in a tent with bedding and will provide transport within Malawi to and from the festival. Festival volunteers must be available from the Wednesday before the festival [September 25] to the Monday after it [September 30].”
