Call for applications: MTN Bushfire 2018
Swaziland’s MTN Bushfire will open applications on 14 August to artists who want to perform at next year’s festival, which takes place from 25 to 27 May 2018.
“MTN Bushfire’s eclectic and multi-dimensional programming is rooted in world music – with a particular emphasis on African sounds,” the organisers said. The line-up would also include “theatre, poetry, dance, art exhibits and installations, storytelling, puppetry, film, speakers and themed workshops”.
Applications will be open to all who are interested in being a part of the festival’s activities. Application forms will be available on the MTN Bushfire official website from 14 August.
The organisers said they were “looking for inspired African and international musicians and artists in all creative mediums”.
MTN Bushfire was given the Most Sustainable Event Award at the African Responsible Tourism Awards 2017. This is in conjunction with the festival's mandate to support “Swaziland’s orphans through NGO Young Heroes and donating 100% of merchandise proceeds to non-profit Bomake Rural Projects”.
MTN Bushfire was also named as one of the 7 African music festivals you really have to see by CNN and Top African festival by the BBC.
Festival director Jiggs Thorne said: “Through our ideals and our actions we continue to explore and redefine the typical festival formula. In doing this we ask questions of ourselves, of artists, and of our audiences: How best do we shape the festival we have created and what do we want to say? What role should the arts play in our society? How do we become practical dreamers? Exploring these questions defines our festival and is the real spirit that people take away.”
