Call for applications: The Music Imbizo 2021
The Music Imbizo in South Africa is calling on musicians, curators/event promoters, booking agents, filmmakers and speakers to apply for the this year’s virtual event from 24 to 29 August.
The event will run under theme, Kushereka Afrika – Yaliyopita. Sasa. Baadaye (Celebrating Africa – The Past. The Present. The Future).
Application process
Applications can be sent via the Music Imbizo website before 6 August for any of the following categories:
- Filmmakers.
- Amapiano versus Gqom Beat Battle.
- All Africa Hip Hop Beat Battle.
- Moot Court Competition
- Hackathon.
The conference has grown to attract musicians, brands, and local and international speakers.
Past speakers include Nasty C (South Africa), Master KG (South Africa), the late Ladysmith Black Mambazo founder Joseph Shabalala (South Africa), former Warner Bros vice-president Seymour Stein (US), A&R Worldwide senior vice-president Monte Malone (US) and Chocolate City founder Audu Maikori (Nigeria), among many others.
“For 2021, we are looking to host over 40 speakers and musicians from more than 30 countries,” The Music Imbizo project manager Sphe Mbhele said. “More important, this year is our inaugural Hackathon and Moot Court Competition. In 2021, we celebrate everything that is Africa. We chose the most spoken language on the continent, Swahili, for our theme, and symbolism from Ghana.”
The Music Imbizo, formerly known as the KZN Music Imbizo, is a fast-growing annual international music business conference and exhibition. The conference hosts various music industry stakeholders under one roof to map the way forward for the music industry on the continent. It is a platform to exhibit, network and share expertise and knowledge.
