Call for applications: National Arts Council of Namibia 2023-24 grants
The National Arts Council of Namibia (NACN) is inviting local creatives to submit applications for Cycle 2 of its 2023-24 funding.
Applicants must have the capability to address at least one of the six critical focus areas below:
- Social protection and research.
- Unearthing marginalised and indigenous arts in rural areas.
- Addressing social ills such as unemployment and gender-based violence.
- Supporting the involvement of women, youth employment opportunities and people living with disabilities.
- Creation of new works through digital media.
- Capacity building and arts entrepreneurship.
Who can apply for the grant
Arts grants are offered to Namibian individuals, groups or Namibian-based art organisations, for both contemporary and traditional art forms and are available to:
- Performers such as actors, dancers, musicians, choreographers, scriptwriters and composers.
- Visual artists.
- Designers.
- Crafters.
- Writers.
- Arts organisations.
- Arts training and workshop presenters.
- Arts promoters.
- A group of people, where one person takes the lead and responsibility for managing the application and grant, if awarded.
Requirements
Individuals and small groups
- Namibian citizenship.
- Artistic ability.
- Proof of work (portfolio with profile).
- Potential to be exemplary in the community.
- Motivation and desire to build a career in the arts.
- Registration with the National Arts Council of Namibia.
Arts organisations
- Should be based in Namibia.
- Should be formally registered.
- Proven track record of involvement in local art activities.
- Recommendations, minimum of one.
- Registration with the National Arts Council of Namibia.
Application procedure
- Fill in the relevant NACN application form – sign and date the form.
- Submit a project proposal and detailed projected budget.
- Provide curriculum vitae with clear contact details.
- Provide proof of Namibian citizenship or Namibian registration of organisation.
- Provide contact details, including phone number and email address.
- Submit recommendation letter(s), minimum of one.
- Show proof of work and include all relevant documents.
- Have proof of a bank account.
- Register with NACN. For those in the regions, this can be done through the Regional Ministry of Education, Department of Life Long Learning Offices and the NACN website.
Application forms for grants are available at the NACN offices, at the arts extension officers in the regions and can also be downloaded via the NACN official website here, fill in and submit before 8 August.

- No online applications will be considered.
- Unsigned application forms will be rejected.
- Submission of application does not guarantee award of grant and or full amount required.
