Call for applications: perFORM Music Incubator in Kenya
Kenyan music professionals are encouraged to apply for the 2021 perFORM Music Incubator programme, which is an artist development initiative by Muthoni Music Entertainment in Nairobi.
- Kenyan singer Prisca Ojwang’ is a previous participant of the programme.
The programme is in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut, German Cooperation and Jenga CCI – a global culture and creative industries (CCI) project that aims at sustainable development and facilitation of CCIs through an integrative educational and funding strategy and the promotion of advocacy.
The music incubator is free and will last nine weeks between 22 February and 30 April 2021. PerFORM aims to provide an enabling environment for artists to conceptualise, rehearse and showcase well-developed live shows, and provide the tools to define, measure and track career success across multiple artistic disciplines and professions.
Kenyan musician Muthoni Drummer Queen has specially designed the programme’s curriculum with support from top project management consultants, which is based on best-practice research, and 10 years of experience running festivals. She is the founder and CEO of the regional Blankets & Wine festival series.
Previous participants of the music incubator include Prisca Ojwang’, Mutoriah, Kaash Karia and Karun.
“Classes will be conducted by established professionals only,” the organisers said. “We encourage each artist applying to have a project in the works. This way, the artist will derive the full benefit of the classes as they are tailored to help you define success for your next project on your terms, and develop the strategy that will get you there. Without a project in mind, the classes are likely to be nothing more than theoretical.”
