Call for applications: SA Conductors’ Competition 2021
South African nationals are invited to apply for the fifth edition of the South African Conductors’ Competition taking place in Cape Town from 4 to 6 October.
The finalists of the competition – formerly known as the the van Zyl Conductors’ Competition – will conduct the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO). The competition is presented with the support of the City of Cape Town and is open to South Africans not older than 33 years as of 1 January 2022.

Applications should include:
- A complete application form.
- A photocopy or scanned version of a South African ID.
- CV.
- Copies of academic qualifications.
- Any other documents providing proof of past work as a musician and/or conductor.
- A recent photograph.
- Video footage, if available.
Prize
The prize, which includes an opportunity to conduct the CPO at an appropriate time, now includes conducting classes at the Maastricht Conservatorium in the Netherlands, as well as involvement in concerts or productions of the Rotterdam Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy.
